1830’s Stone Mill

Your own solid stone country home on a rushing river with rapids, water falls, and surrounded by acres of forest. About 3.5 hours to the middle of Central Park by car. Not bad considering the history of this property, but it’s a serious drive out of the city.

You could say it’s been listed for a while. “1948 days on Zillow”.. aka 5+ years on the market looking for a buyer that wants a half million dollar stone mill house built in 1835 on a 4+ acre property. At 6,000 sqft this place is huge, and already renovated as an operating B&B (innbythemill.com). With that much history, it’s no wonder this property comes with its own storied history.

The Stone Grist Mill construction started around 1830 and was completed in 1835. The Grist Mill opened for business on February 20, 1835 and produced Flour & Animal Feed. The Stone Grist Mill building was also used as a Station of the Underground Railroad. Escaping slaves traveled to and from the Mill through an underground tunnel that runs along the creek to another Mill that was located downstream. Rooms below the basement floor provided a secure and safe place to rest while waiting for the next barge traveling up the Mohawk River towards Canada and freedom.
