Building Stronger

  • Built into the side of a hill, this modern A-frame makes perfect use of the topography. Lots of windows facing one direction on the lower level and the upper level facing only in other directions gives each room a unique view of the world around. Thus adding to the daily intrigue of seeing different perspectives…

  • Modern Chalet

This modern take on a chalet is simple and efficient. At first glance it might feel a bit top heavy, but the functionality of the long overhanging deck and roof line will save your back from hours of extra shoveling. And give you more time for rest and relaxation from life’s maintenance. Otherwise the house…

  • Floor to ceiling window don’t always have to be really wide. This slim window lets in a sliver of light and lets you see everything outside, while maximizing privacy. A really great architectural feature to add a dramatic line to an otherwise boring wall.

  • Black Chalet

A tiny black chalet contrasting beautifully against the bright white snow. I wonder how much the paint helps with winter heat absorption. A warm color figured wood front door would make this chalet super welcoming.

  • Creating a really nice contrast with the walnut? slab, these minimal brass joint keys are functional and beautiful. These would be really nice in a X key wood joint style too.

  • A key in this case refers to the thing used to hold wood together and prevent further cracking or splitting. Usually it’s a called dovetail key or a butterfly joint because of the common shape used. But this modern take is easily as strong and adds some intense color to your project. Other colors look…

  • Maybe it’s just me, but I think this would make an amazing dining table or coffee table in a modern cabin. Woodworking by hand is great, but this would probably only make sense to make with a CNC machine.

  • Just a cute little turned wood bird house. While this looks like a christmas tree ornament, making it large enough to fit cardinals or other brighter feathered birds would be ideal. Probably also needs a more significant attachment method to keep the birds from getting seasick from swaying in the wind.

  • Comfortable and cozy doesn’t mean it has to be an old cluttered and stuffy cabin. Simple lines and a function built hearth perfectly blends warm wood tones and visual interest with modern lines and materials in a clean open space.

  • Bright and clean looking tiny country cottage looks like a welcome escape from the brooding weather. Or maybe a nice escape from humanity.

  • A tiny cabin set on the edge of a private pond. Interesting choice to have an industrial style shower open to the elements above. And almost entirely closed off to the world except for a whole wall of glass facing the pond.

  • Vertical wood siding and a reflective glass wall make this modern cabin all but disappear in the woods.

  • Farmhouse Door

Just a super solid rustic farmhouse door. Looks like it’s in California or the Mediterranean with the olive tree out front, stone color, and arid looking atmosphere.

  • Simple Cabin

Just a small simple cabin in the country. No special view, not next to a lake, no mountains, or dramatic scenery. Just a quiet cabin and some wildflowers. But you could say this cabin is still outstanding in its field.

  • Lake House

A real getaway on a lake. The boat house and ridiculously long pier make this property really stand out.

  • Beach House

Open to the ocean breeze almost all the way around this costal getaway is designed nicely. One paster suite and three guest rooms, each with their own bathroom and perfect view of the ocean. The huge soaking tub is also a nice addition.

  • Sleek little black cabin situated for an amazing view of rolling hills and mountains. With an all black outside it contrasts beautifully with the bright green grass and the stark white interior. It might be tiny, but it’s everything you need to get away from life for a while.

  • When thinking cabin, most people go to logs and a rustic country style. Not this industrial style cabin built with concrete and old factory style window walls. An unexpected find nestled in the forest, but just as nice as many other styles of cabin, and possibly more functional and easier to build.

  • This tiny one room cabin makes great use of a small footprint. A large picture window from the floor up lets you read next to the fireplace while taking in the winter wonderland. Contrasting with the exterior a quintessential rustic cabin inside has haphazardly placed built in bookshelves a wood burning stove and wide plank…

  • Soak up the summer sun with this huge deck and glassed in living area. Built in a lean-to style, the open side directs your view, lets in all the light, and still gives you privacy at the back of the cabin. And in the winter the large roof overhang lets you watch the snow fall,…
