Building Stronger

Exterior

  • The Roccolino

Possibly the cutest little country tower you can find anywhere. Il Roccolino is an old hunting lodge in the Imagna Valley, a sleepy little village in beautiful northern Italy. You can tell this place can get a lot of snow by how far the eaves overhang the structure, letting it fall away from the building. Built in…

  • The Barn

Modern, minimalist, and rustic combine to make a beautiful open barn style home. I wish the builders, CGH Constructions, gave more information about the house. But from their photos it looks like it can sleep at least 14 people. Most of which fit in a large bunk style room with 4 queen size beds and…

  • Like you’re out camping, but you have a real roof over your head. Or a few rooves in this case, making it look even more like a set of pitched tents. Looks like a great way to get away from city life for a while, but maybe not enough interior space with headroom to live…

  • Close to the simplest thing you could do with a couple shipping containers. Really nice in an all black exterior and simple plywood interior walls. I wonder what happens when lots and lots of snow piles up on top? Looks like more than enough room for two small bedrooms off the Y ends with a…

  • Surf shack just has better alliteration than surf cabin. So don’t let shack confuse you, it’s a really pretty tiny ocean side cabin render. Perfect for catching the sun sets and looking out over the water to see just when the surf is perfect to catch a few waves. With one main window wall facing…

  • Filled with natural light from lots of windows along the raised center aisle roof line, this monitor style barn rendering would make a great workshop or studio. And the rustic batten siding gives it a real country look. What’s better rustic brown or classic barn red? The second image with a gabled extension and privacy…

  • Small and bright asymmetrical a-frame cabin with a huge deck for maximizing your vacation experience. Obviously a render, but would be a really great getaway spot with giant windows and a cozy sloped roof all around to let the snow roll off in the winter.

  • Lovely tiny cabin with an intense modern angular exterior clad in black metal siding. Which I’m sure is great for soaking up as much heat as possible in those cold winter months. The interior looks super cozy with large skylights and picture windows to let in lots of light and light colored wood walls to…

  • Bright and cozy, this courtyard is illuminated by a wall of gently glowing lanterns. A great example of repeating design without overwhelming the space. With a tree, some grass, and planters it truly is a quiet private space where (well manicured) nature is allowed in.

  • Two cabins juxtaposed beautifully. A cozy old log cabin with a classic red door contrasts amazing with a bright new modern cabin addition. Loving the bright white inside edge of the modern overhang and the light pine wood siding on that face of the cabin.

  • Light wood siding makes this small contemporary cabin warm and inviting. The charcoal door and window frames contrast really nicely. Along with the charcoal metal roof to listen to the rain fall, or watch the snow slide off.

  • Vertical wood slats add lots of interest to this otherwise shipping container like box cabin. And a almost full wall of matching shutters and sliding picture window doors that can fold out of the way really lets you enjoy the outdoors.

  • Really simple concrete and glass modern home set on a high mountain lake. The ideal getaway from an overcrowded city life to take in the amazing scenery without losing yourself in a giant country home.

  • Minimal doesn’t have to mean it’s not warm and cozy. A simple rolling hill of grass outside bakes a really inviting minimal and manicured yard for this modern glass house.

  • Like all good charts it’s up and to the left. In this case the block sizes of the house increasing gently, slightly breaking up the otherwise completely simple white block facade.

  • Ocean Cabin

Just a simple white cabin by the ocean. The angular exterior gives it a modernized look, but few tiny windows makes me think it’s still very closed off inside.

  • Perched on a cliff above the ocean gives this home epic sunset views and has a beautiful sundeck to watch them from. The main floor opens fully on one side to the coastal breeze and keeps out prying eyes and human noise from the landward side.

  • A really nice modern winter getaway. Cantilevered and sculpted to look like it’s partially floating. And huge full wall windows make it feel like you can walk right out into nature.

  • Concrete framed with giant shutters, this simple home makes great use of just two building materials and its environment. Check out that amazing kitchen island that flows to the outside patio and becomes a huge dining table. A matching concrete lap pool out back to keep you cool in the hotter months

  • An old country cabin given new life with solar panels and a huge rectangle cut into one wall for a massive modern window.
